You don't need a Gambian Partner to do any business in The Gambia. You can register your company or business through simple guidelines. You will need a TIN number & work permit

You can have legal, Christian, Muslim and customery marriages.

Legal marriage at the marriage Registry and get your marriage certificate

Take care before entering into this marriage because you cannot dissolve it before two years without the Courts permission.

You cannot conduct a Muslim marriage if you are not a Muslim. You can convert to a Muslim to marry a Muslim woman but a Muslim man can marry any religion. This marraige can be registered.

Christian marriage is purely between Christians. You can do a customary marriage which is different from all others, if you are neither Christian Or Muslim

Property Law:

This is the most complex of all in the Gambia due to the complexity in the land tennure system

You can buy and sell land in The Gambia whilst abroad with proper legal guidence.

You can buy lease land, which is free from any encumbrance like mortgage, pledge, court bowl, deposit as security. A search at the land registery does not revil all encumbrancys inless you insist on the production of the original lease.

Do not buy freehold/customary land without a solicitor because it is complex and possible for all kinds of fraud, by collision, connivence, conspiracy, conversion and obtained by false pre-tenses.

You can buy customary land any where in the gambia in your own name but there are restrictions and limitations.

Always seek professional advice in any case of buying land in The Gambia to secure your money or your property.

Agents commisions is normally 10% for freehold properties and 5% for lease hold properties.
